(1/16/2012) BMP's Event Picks of the Week: Zycus, Gartner, MBDA
You can view all upcoming events on our site in a weekly listing or on an ongoing basis in our monthly calendar.
We visit over forty sources to come up with the listing so you can check one central place to see who is hosting webinars, conferences, and more. We don’t help run the events or have any affiliation with the hosts. We see this as a valuable service we can offer to you. One other helpful thing to mention is that if you come to our calendar and click on an event that you are interested in attending, we’ve posted all of the registration links so you can sign up for the event directly from our site.
If you'd prefer to LISTEN to an update, we also do a weekly Blog Talk Radio update on Jon Hansen's PI Window on Business program. Click here to listen to the latest episode. Please note that each Monday the update plays at 10pm EST. We will update the page with the newest episode is available.
This week's recommended events: January 16 - 20
There are a number of events taking place this week, but I recommend the following three as the best use of your time.
** Update: the following Zycus event has been moved to January 25th **
The first is on Tuesday, and is being hosted by Zycus: “Combating Supply Chain Risks: Key Strategies for the Year 2012.” Procurement was forced to handle many of 2011’s disruptions reactively, particularly as relates to natural disasters. As a result, many organizations developed or changed their formal risk assessment and mitigation plans, often giving procurement significant responsibility in this area. Since we can’t be reactive two years in a row, this event is a good opportunity to get out in front of the new challenges yet to come.
The second event I’d recommend is last Thursday’s Gartner event on the talented leaders needed to take sourcing and procurement to the next level. I don’t usually feature previous week’s events in this update, but this event merits an exception. For one thing, the live event was at 11pm Eastern Thursday night. The other reason to call additional attention to this event is because the research Gartner did to support it is relevant to anyone who considers themselves a career supply management or procurement professional. There is a good chance I will revisit this event with my notes on Friday as well.
Finally, there is a webinar on Tuesday being run by the Minority Business Development Agency, (which is run by the U.S. Department of Commerce) and in conjunction with the Small Business Association and Agility Recovery Solutions about the impact of 2011’s natural disasters on diversity suppliers. Usually these suppliers are smaller than the average, and the impact of business continuity concerns hit them harder. If you have responsibility in your company’s diversity supplier program, this is a good opportunity to prepare yourself for some of the challenges you may see your minority suppliers face in 2012.
